THE CODE OF CONDUCT FOR STUDENTS

Preamble

Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) expects the students to be mature and responsible in their relationship with each other and exhibit the highest standard of behavior in their interactions with their teachers, staff workers, fellow students and the University community in general. The Code of Conduct for Students is set forth to ensure appropriate student behavior and to create an educational environment conducive for students to achieve their goals.

Academic Obligations

Students shall;

  • Attend all the academic activities and fulfill the academic and attendancerequirements as specified by the regulatory bodies and Yenepoya (Deemed to be University).
  • Be punctual to lectures, practical classes and clinical postings with all materials required and adhere to the dress code prescribed by the competent authority.
  • Behave in the classroom in such a way that classrooms are conducive to learning.
  • Abide by the instructions of the teachers and comply with them.
  • Be seated in the classroom before the scheduled time of commencement of the class and not leave the class until the teacher leaves. Latecomers shall enter the classroom only after obtaining permission from the teacher engaging in the class.
  • Use of Mobile Phones, inside the classrooms, laboratory, library and hospital wards during working hours only for academic purposes or patient care.
  • Ensure that their attendance is recorded/ captured in the biometric device in the classroom.
  • Report/take permission for absence from academic activities. They shall submit a leave letter duly signed by the competent authority. Medical leave application has to be supported with a medical certificate. Leave on medical grounds will be treated as absence and will not compensate for attendance requirements.
  • Complete all academic-related activities within the notified time with utmost sincerity and integrity.
  • Abide by the rules and arrangements related to the internal assessments and the University examinations and shall not be involved in malpractice. Any violation will be dealt with appropriately as per the University bylaws.

Non-Academic Obligations

Students shall;

  • Be respectful to teachers, staff and workers of the institution and courteous to fellow students.
  • Adhere to the University/College regulations, rules, instructions and decisions framed, from time to time.
  • Possess a valid University identity card and wear it while on campus.
  • Return Identity Card at the end of the program/withdrawal from the institute.
  • Report to the Dean/Principal if the Identity card is lost.
  • Remain within designated areas on the college premises and do not loiter.
  • Keep the laboratory, classrooms, hostel, etc., neat.
  • Ensure calmness and tranquility within the facilities of the University.
  • Protect the property of the institution and do not cause any damage or tamper with the furniture, equipment, building or any other University property.
  • Be responsible for any books, equipment or material issued to them by the library or departments.
  • Strictly adhere to hostel rules and regulations of the University.
  • Follow the leave sanctioning procedure before leaving the campus on holidays/leave.
  • Conduct them in a manner that upholds the University's reputation and avoids any actions that could lead to defamation, whether directly or indirectly through the media or newspapers and/or other media.
  • Refrain from engaging in public displays of affection on the campus.
  • Follow the prescribed dress code while attending the lectures/practical/ Library/labs and formal functions of the institution. Wear a clean and neat uniform provided by the institution along with formal footwear.Boys shall be either clean-shaven or keep well-groomed beards and mustaches. Hairshall be neatly combed and, if beyond shoulder length, shall be tied up.
  • Wear clean white coats during dissection/practical/laboratory work and scrubs during clinical postings and refrain from wearing them outside the University/college/hospital premises.
  • Avoid the use of personal vehicles. However, those who use shall have vehicle passes issued by the competent authority and shall strictly adhere to traffic safety rules.
  • Strictly refrain from ragging. Involvement in ragging is a serious criminal offense.(Refer to UGC guidelines for details https://www.ugc.gov.in/oldpdf/ragging/minuterag230409.pdf)
  • Strictly refrain from possessing, using, or distributing substances of abuse including Tobacco, Alcohol and any other drugs and substances mentioned in The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Act 1985. (Refer to the YDU Policy on Substance Abuse Prevention for details)

The University officials, teachers, student welfare officers/student counselors, security personnel, etc. shall be responsible for monitoring the students for effective adherence to the Code of Conduct. The Principal of the constituent unit shall be responsible for initiating necessary punitive actions for indiscipline by the provisions of the Bylaw of the University. The Vice-Chancellor shall be the appellate authority to resolve the disputed conclusions of the Committees and the decision of the Vice Chancellor shall be final and binding and conclusive.
