The Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) has disabled friendly, barrier free environment which enables the employees and students with disabilities to move about safely and freely and to use the facilities within. All the classrooms of the university are built with ramps and lifts for the easy access. The lift has Braille signs which can be ‘read by touch’ to help the disabled locate the places in their day to day lives. The university has disabled friendly washrooms specially designed for the better accommodation of disabled employees and students in all the constituent campus of the university. Signage boards are been fixed where ever needed to identify and warn the disabled regarding the safety and to avoid hazards in the workplace. Assistive technology and facilities for persons with disabilities are easily accessible in the university website. The screen reading software and mechanized equipments specially designed for the persons with disability are available any time during the need. There are provisions for enquiry and information, human assistance, reader, scribe for those disabled employees who has physical limitations to read or write. Soft copies of reading materials are always available in the help desk and screen reading for any other specific information. We have an eclectic buggy and parking slot specially reserved for disabled employees and also a mechanized wheelchair for those who are unable to propel a manual wheelchair.
