Report on the Valedictory Programme of the Five-Day National Level Workshop on "Econometric Analysis in Leading Academic Journals: Hands on Practice"

The valedictory programme of the Five-Day National Level Workshop on "Econometric Analysis in Leading Academic Journals: Hands on Practice" organized by Yenepoya Research Centre for Finance and Entrepreneurship Development (YEN-REFINED), a Research Centre of The Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Science, Commerce and Management (YIASCM), Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) in association with Mangalore University, was held on the 28th of September, 2024. The event marked the conclusion of a five-day workshop focused on econometric analysis. The event was graced by the distinguished dignitaries, including Prof. T. Mallikarjunappa, Professor in the Department of MBA at Justice K.S. Hegde Institute of Management, Nitte (Deemed to be University) as the Chief Guest; Dr Mohamad Aslam, Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Mohali, Punjab, who served as both Guest of Honour and Resource Person; Dr Shareena P, Vice Principal and Dean of Commerce and Management at YIASCM, who served as the President; Dr Jeevan Raj, Vice Principal of YIASCM; Dr Niyaz Panakaje, Coordinator of YEN-REFINED, YIASCM; and Dr Wajeeda Bano, Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at Mangalore University.

The programme commenced with a prayer led by Mr Jamsheer, Assistant Professor, YIASCM. Following the prayer, the welcome address and introduction of the Chief Guest were delivered by Ms S. M. Riha Parvin, Visiting Research Fellow of YEN-REFINED, YIASCM setting a warm and enthusiastic tone for the event.

As the event progressed, feedback from the participants highlighted the impact and value of the workshop. Mr. Rohit Radhakrishnan, a Research Scholar from Manipal Academy of Higher Education, shared his positive feedback, emphasizing the resource person's keen focus on reasoning through each step in econometric analysis. Ms. Aneesa from Farook College (Autonomous) affiliated to University of Calicut, Kozhikode, praised the resource person's meticulous content delivery, noting the step-by-step explanation and the emphasis on the interconnectedness of different aspects within each econometric method. She also added that the hospitality extended by the organisers was exemplary and they felt like home.

Dr Niyaz Panakaje, the coordinator of YEN-REFINED, offered his remarks on the success of the workshop. He emphasized that the resource person had meticulously met each objective of the workshop, ensuring participants gained a comprehensive understanding of the technical aspects of econometrics.

The Chief Guest, Prof. T. Mallikarjunappa, a renowned educator and researcher with over four decades of excellence in teaching and research, delivered a thought-provoking address. Prof. Mallikarjunappa emphasized the critical qualities that make a research paper stand out, particularly the editor's expectations before passing a paper on to the reviewer. He commended the resource person for empowering the participants with the skills to meet these expectations. Additionally, he stressed the importance of collaboration in educational institutions, as opposed to competition, as a means to achieve success. Prof. Mallikarjunappa also explained the significance of aligning the various aspects within a research paper such as review of literature with the discussion and so on, stating that without this connection, the paper holds little value.

The Guest of Honour and Resource Person, Dr Mohamad Aslam, then addressed the gathering. He urged participants to immediately apply the knowledge gained from the workshop, emphasizing that without follow-up, the lessons learned would be of little benefit. Dr Mohamad Aslam expressed his gratitude to YEN-REFINED and Mangalore University for their seamless coordination and hospitality. He also praised the simplicity and humility of South Indians, attributing these qualities to the respect they have earned.

Although Dr Arun Bhagwath, Principal and Dean of Science, YIASCM was unable to attend, his influence was deeply felt, as his extensive expertise and leadership were key to the workshop's success, inspiring and influencing researchers to approach their work with greater rigor and insight.

Dr Shareena P., Vice Principal and Dean of Commerce and Management, YIASCM provided the concluding remarks, highlighting the Chief Guest's extensive expertise in econometric analysis, a field in which he held significant knowledge two decades ago, well before its widespread popularity. She reiterated the importance of validating research results through thorough analysis and emphasized the role of deep knowledge in producing high-quality research.

The presence of Dr Jeevan Raj, Vice Principal of YIASCM, added a sense of responsibility and support to the event, as his encouragement played a key role in the successful organization of the workshop.

As the programme drew to a close, a token of appreciation in the form of mementos and certificates were presented to the Chief Guest, the Guest of Honour, and Dr. Wajeeda Bano, the joint organizer. Dr. Madhura, Research Associate of YEN-REFINED, YIASCM, took over the distribution of certificates to the participants. The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Bazigha, Junior Research Fellow of YEN-REFINED, YIASCM, followed by the National Anthem.

The valedictory programme was hosted by Dr Shakira Irfana, Associate Professor, YEN- REFINED, YIASCM. The workshop was well organised with assistance of Ms Babitha and Bazigha, Junior Research Fellow, along with research interns of YEN-REFINED, YIASCM. The organisers expressed their gratitude to the IT team, maintenance and the support staff for their assistance and commitment to excellence, under the leadership of the Admin Manager of YIASCM, Mr Calvin D' Souza.

The valedictory programme was a fitting end to a highly informative and successful workshop along with the National Anthem, leaving participants enriched and inspired to continue their research journey with newfound knowledge and skills.
